The event will be held in Santander, north Spain, and hosted at the Palace of La Magdalena, the most emblematic building of the city.  It will take place on 29th-30th April 2014.

The main objective of this workshop, as stated in the FOREST EUROPE Programme of Work, is "to identifying effective measures to foster and strengthen green jobs, and propose pan-European approaches to raise awareness, and to serve decision making on the contributions of multiple forest functions to the world economy, building upon the outcomes of Rio+20 and the Sustainable Development Goals".

The workshop will also deal with the social dimension of SFM, addressing issues related to the new social demands on forests.

In the Oslo Ministerial Conference, the ministers underscored the important role of forests in transitioning to a green economy.  They stressed the need to put more emphasis on the social aspects of forestry, as well as to adapt to the changing needs of society and priorities related to forests.

This workshop will be an excellent opportunity to face the challenge recognized by the ministers.  It will facilitate the exchange of different views, experiences and lessons learnt dealing with these topics, and help to identify future priority actions to be taken in this field.
