These forest certification systems were first endorsed by PEFC in 2002 and this is the second time that they have been re-endorsed.  This means that they continue to meet PEFC international requirements.

All together, the three systems cover more than 1,800,000 hectares of sustainably managed forest.

The PEFC international global forest certification system limits endorsements of national systems to a five year period.  The national-level certification standards must be revised before the country's forest certification system can re-apply for endorsement.  The aim of this rule is to ensure that the latest scientific research and practical field experience, as well as society's changing values and expectations of sustainable forest management, are implemented at the national, regional and local levels.
