First PEFC certified forests in Slovenia

For the first time forests in Slovenia have become PEFC certified with the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia (CAFS) being the first organization in the country to be awarded this certificate.

Achieving this certification is the result of the hard work undertaken over the last years, recognized Cvetko Zupančič, President of CAFS, during the award ceremony.  This work started in 2004 when the Institute for Forest Certification was created in Slovenia in order to introduce PEFC certification in the country.

This certificate validates that 320 forest owners and almost 10,000 hectares of Slovenian forest are managed according to PEFC’s Sustainability Benchmarks.

PEFC Sustainable Forest Management certification demonstrates that biodiversity, ecosystem services, worker’s rights, local employment and the legal framework, among other factors, are taken into consideration when managing forests.
