The Oslo Ministerial Mandate adopted by the FOREST EUROPE signatories in 2011 established an intergovernmental negotiating committee (INC) for a Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe. According to the mandate the committee shall present its work to a FOREST EUROPE Extraordinary Ministerial Conference for its consideration and possible adoption.

Contrary to the general belief that young trees absorb more carbon than old ones due to their more vigorous growth, a new analysis suggests that the rate of tree carbon accumulation increases with tree age and size.This is the main result of research led by Nathan L. Stephenson, an ecologist from the US Geological Survey, published in the journal Nature on 15th January.
